District Level Training programme on “Promotion of Medicinal & Aromatic plants and Millets cultivation held

REASI, March 1: District Level Training programme on “Promotion of Medicinal & Aromatic plants and Millets cultivation inaugurated today by Chief Agriculture Officer Reasi, Harbans Singh at Conference Hall, DC office, Reasi.

Marking the importance of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants, CAO Resai stressed on cultivation of these plants on commercial scale with involvement of young agripreneures for enhancing the farm income. He also underlined the increasing importance of Nutricereals (Millets) as millets are rich sources of   protein, dietary fiber, iron and calcium etc.

It was informed that the initiative to promote millets hopes to expand the area under millet cultivation from 8310 hectares to 14310 hectares and distribute 550 quintal of High Yielding Variety (HYV) seeds under HADP in JK UT.

Head KVK, Banarsi Lal explained in detail the status as well as commercial cultivation scope of Medicinal & Aromatic plants in Reasi district.

Production and post harvest management was also well elaborated on the occasion.

 Regarding millet promotion topics like bottleneck, scope, objectives and targeted output besides execution of millet production plan were effectively covered by the resource persons.

Those who participated in the training include District Agriculture Officer (Extension) Rajesh Verma, District Agriculture Officer Reasi Ravinder Tripathi, Scientist KVK Lalit Upadhaya and Sub Division Agriculture Officer Reasi besides other concerned officials.
