Ten Day Yoga Workshop starts at University of Jammu 

JAMMU, May 19: Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies University of Jammu organised a ten day yoga workshop, “Yoga and Inner peace” in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education University of Jammu. The purpose of the workshop is to make the students experience yoga so that they are able to  make it a part of their daily routine. 


Prof Rajiv Rattan, Director College Development Council, University of Jammu was the chief guest in the inaugural session.He in his inaugural address talked about yoga as a significant aspect of our culture and heritage since times immemorial. He further threw light on  the negative impact of sedentary lifestyle and poor dietary habits on our physical and mental health.

Dr Shreyansh Kumar Jain ,State Chairman, Indian Yoga Association and President Vichar Kranti Manch International was the Guest of Honour . He in his address highlighted yoga as a mechanism in dealing with health problems citing various examples. Besides this he also threw light on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle in general and practicing yoga and naturopathy in particular.

Dr Daud Iqbal Baba Director Directorate of Sports and Physical Education gave special remarks wherein he talked about the role of yoga being instrumental in development of harmonious life.

Mr.Sanjeevkumar and Mr.Sandeep Sharma are the resource persons for the workshop who will be training the students in different yoga techniques.

Earlier Dr Seema Rohmetra, Incharge Director Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies presented the welcome address wherein she focused upon yoga adding discipline to one’s lives which otherwise has become sedentary in nature in the present context of materialism and consumerism.Dr Mandeep Singh, Assistant Professor, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education presented the formal Vote of thanks. Sixty two students are attending this workshop. Among others, Dr. Sapna Sangra, Sandeep Sharma, Gagan Kumar, Ravish vaid Rajkumar, Jai Bharat, PD Singhand Gagan Singh were also present during the inaugural session.
