Poonch admin gears up for Mock Exercise on Earthquake, Landslide Preparedness

POONCH, MARCH 01: In a proactive measure to bolster disaster preparedness in the district, Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Tahir Mustafa Malik today chaired a meeting with officers aimed at strengthening the community’s response capabilities in the event of potential disasters.

The meeting focused on the detailed planning and execution of a district-level mock exercise, which will simulate an earthquake and landslide scenario.

The meeting attended by Xen PDD, Imtiaz Khan, Xen PHE, Rashpal, District Information Officer, Vishaldeep Chandan, Tehsildar Haveli, Azhar Majid, AD Food and civil supplies , Adil Shabir, DEPO, Narinder Mohan Suri, AE PWD, Tariq Choudhary, Maroof Khan from ARTO office, representatives from disaster and fire services and other concerned officers, addressed various aspects of the upcoming mock exercise.

During the deliberations, the Additional Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of thorough planning and execution to enhance the community’s response capabilities.

Detailed arrangements for the mock exercise were discussed, including the selection of five locations, preferably schools, colleges, compact localities and district hospital for the drill. The identified locations for the exercise are as follows: PWD Complex Lok Nirmal Bhawan, Hr. Sec. School Boys Poonch, GDC Poonch, GDC Mendhar and District Hospital Poonch.

Furthermore, the meeting also focused on updating the status of equipment available with each department involved in disaster response. The officers in attendance provided updates on the current status of equipment and discussed measures to address any gaps or shortcomings.

It was collectively decided during the meeting that one nodal officer, along with five other officers, will oversee the mock exercise. The exercise is scheduled to take place on the 5th and 7th of March.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner urged all concerned departments, members of public and stakeholders to actively participate and contribute to the success of the mock exercise.
