Leh Health Department and Tele Manas UT Ladakh Lead World Autism Awareness Day Event

Leh, April 04 – The Health Department, Leh, in collaboration with Tele Manas UT Ladakh, marked World Autism Awareness Day at Munsil School, Sabu Leh, with a focus on the theme color blue, symbolizing understanding and acceptance.

Nilza Angmo, District Social Welfare Officer was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Dr. Samina Batool, MD Psychiatrist Jr. Consultant, shed light on autism as a common neurodevelopmental disorder that begins during fetal development. She emphasized the importance of early detection and intervention, highlighting factors such as genetic predisposition and prenatal conditions.

Mara Casella, Founder and Principal of Munsil School, shared insights into the school’s journey in supporting children with special needs, including autism. With dedicated teachers and personalized approaches, Munsil School has become a beacon of hope for children with disabilities in Ladakh.

Nilza Angmo, District Social Welfare Officer, reiterated the significance of community support and empowerment for individuals with autism and their families. She emphasized the need for financial assistance, highlighting the role of government schemes like Kunsnyoms schemes and others, along with access to resources, to ensure the well-being and inclusion of individuals with autism in Ladakh society.
