Kulgam police apprehend drug peddler, seize 4 kg poppy straw

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Kulgam police arrested a drug peddler and seized a significant amount of contraband substance from his possession on Saturday.

Acting on specific information, a police team from Qazigund Police Station established a checkpoint at Bonigam crossing near NHW Qazigund. During the checking, they intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Maqsood Ahmad Naikoo, a resident of Nassu Badragund.

Upon searching Naikoo, officers recovered 4 kilograms of poppy straw, a narcotic substance. He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

A case vide FIR number 79/2024 under sections 8 and 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Qazigund Police Station. An investigation into the case is underway.
