With the unwavering support of the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM), Asiya’s transformation from an ordinary villager to a successful beekeeper is nothing short of a remarkable success story.

Coming from humble beginnings in Gangoo Village, Block Pulwama, Asiya Jan faced numerous challenges that are all too familiar to rural residents. Determined to bring about a positive change in her life and that of her community, she decided to explore alternative livelihood options. Recognizing the potential of apiculture, Asiya sought support from the JKRLM, a flagship program aimed at empowering marginalized communities in Jammu and Kashmir.

With the guidance and training provided by JKRLM through SHGs, Asiya embraced the art of beekeeping, gaining valuable knowledge on modern beekeeping techniques, hive management, and honey extraction methods. The program also emphasized sustainable practices, ensuring that beekeeping would not only provide a source of income but also contribute to the preservation of the environment and biodiversity.

Overcoming initial challenges, Asiya Jan’s passion for beekeeping began to bear fruit. She established her own apiary, strategically placing beehives amidst the abundant flora of Nowbahar Village Organization. As the bees diligently pollinated the local crops, the village witnessed an increase in agricultural productivity, further strengthening the bond between the community and their newfound beekeeping venture.

Asiya’s dedication to her newfound livelihood paid off, as she started to harvest high-quality honey, wax, and other bee products. With access to market linkages facilitated by JKRLM, she found a ready market for her products, not only within the region but also beyond the state borders.

Today, Asiya Jan stands as an embodiment of the positive change that is possible when determination meets support and opportunity. Her journey from a member of the Lotus Self Help Group, Nowbahar Village Organization (VO) to a successful beekeeper showcases the potential that lies within every individual, given the right resources and encouragement.
