GDC Bhaderwah organises 7-Day Camp on National Survey of Rural Youth

BHADERWAH, May 18: The NSS Unit of Government Degree College Bhaderwah has organised a week-long special camp on the National Survey of Rural Youth Not in Formal Education and Regular Employment.

In accordance with the directives from the NSS wing of the University of Jammu, the camp began on May 17, 2023. The inaugural ceremony took place on the college campus, with Dr. K.K Sharma, the Principal of GDC Bhaderwah, flagging off the NSS volunteers to the adopted village, Thanalla Block Bhaderwah.

The primary objective of the camp is to conduct a comprehensive survey among rural youth aged between 15 to 29 years. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, the NSS Programme Officer, emphasized the significance of rural development in line with Jammu and Kashmir’s participation in the G-20 summit. Bhaderwah College has taken the initiative to visit and adopt villages to carry out the youth survey and raise awareness regarding education and employment opportunities.

The enthusiastic NSS volunteers were divided into 14 groups, with each group comprising 3-4 students assigned to conduct door-to-door visits for the survey. On the first day itself, approximately 20% of the survey was successfully completed, accompanied by engaging discussions and conversations with the local residents. The students were provided with refreshments to energize them during the day.

Distinguished staff members, including NSS Programme Officer Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Prof. Bhekam Pal Singh, Prof. Mohd Yaseen Sirwal, Prof. Deep Chand, and Prof. Sanjay Kumar from the Department of Political Science graced the occasion and extended their support to the volunteers. This ambitious endeavor aims to gather vital data on the status of youth in rural areas while addressing educational and employment-related concerns in the region.
