ANANTNAG, March 07: Food Safety Officer, Anantnag today held a massive awareness campaign regarding food fortification at Government Degree College Anantnag.

The program was attended by a large gathering of people belonging to ICDS and the Education Department. The participants were educated about the concept of food fortification and its benefits particularly for children in their growing years.

It is in place to mention that Fortification is the practice of deliberately increasing the content of one or more micronutrients (i.e., vitamins and minerals) in a food or condiment to improve the nutritional quality of the food supply and provide a public health benefit with minimal risk to health.

In a separate incident, a team of officials from FSO Anantnag, acting on prior information apprehended a transporter for transporting meat balls and kebabs without a cold storage facility. On being apprehended, the concerned disclosed that the items have been labeled incorrectly and are in violation of the provisions of FSSA-2006.

The team has booked the culprit for violation of the provisions of FSSA-2006 and destroyed the whole consignment of items owing to false labeling and short shelf life of the product.
