Eliezer Joldan Memorial College organises field visit for students in Leh

Leh, Apr 19, 2024: The Department of Botany, Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh, organised a field visit for the students of second semester skill enhancement course – vermicomposting subject to vermicomposting unit at Defense Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR), Leh today on April 19.

The aim of the field visit was to enhance student’s practical knowledge and skills in vermicomposting. DIHAR is renowned for its expertise in vermicomposting techniques, especially in high-altitude regions like Ladakh. Therefore, students were eager to observe and learn from the advanced practices and technologies employed at DIHAR. 

The visit provided the students with valuable insights into vermicomposting and also inspired them to contribute positively to environmental sustainability initiatives in our region as vermicomposting is also an alternative way in waste management. 

During the field visit at DIHAR, Technical Officer, Deskyong Namgyal shared his experience with the students on how to adopt vermicomposting and its importance in the agriculture system. 

Assistant Professor, Botany, Dr. Tsetan Dolker also shared her expertise to the students regarding vermicomposting. She highlighted that vermicomposting is an eco-friendly and sustainable method for waste management that involves the conversion of organic waste into vermicompost.
