DLSA Ganderbal organizes training programme for PLVs on POCSO Act

GANDERBAL, JANUARY 11: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ganderbal in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Bandipora today organised training programme for PLVs and members of Child Welfare Committees and Juvenile Justice Board of District Ganderbal and Bandipora on POCSO Act, at conference hall District Court Ganderbal.

The programme was held under the chairmanship of Ritesh Kumar Dubey, Chairman DLSA, Ganderbal; Amit Sharma, Chairman DLSA, Bandipora and under the guidance of Secretary DLSA Ganderbal and Bandipora, Nusrat Ali Hakak.

The programme was attended by the PLVs and members of Child Welfare Committees and Juvenile Justice Board of District Ganderbal physically, while as PLVs and members of Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile Justice Board of District Bandipora attended the said training programme virtually.

Adv. S.M Mustehseen, trainer of the said training programme, educated participants about their role while dealing with victims of sexual abuse under the POCSO Act, 2012.

He taught members of the Child Welfare Committee about their role in dealing with such victims as per the provisions of the Act. He said, in sexual abuse cases Child Welfare Committees have to ensure immediate assistance in terms of counseling, medical, shelter, etc. to the victim child and Statement of the child should be recorded by Child Welfare Committees and trustworthy person should be present with the victim. Besides, Child Welfare Committees should ensure registration of FIR in the victim’s case through the District Child Protection Unit.

Child Welfare Committees should direct the District Child Protection Unit to facilitate filing of application of compensation in the victim’s case through DLSAs. Child Welfare Committees should follow the procedure as laid down under the POCSO Act, 2012.

It is important to understand that while the case of the victim child would be investigated and tried as per POCSO Act, 2012, the rehabilitation of the child will be done as per provisions of the JJ Act, 2015. He also made participants aware about the role and responsibilities of DLSAs in POCSO cases.

Zulfkar Khan, Member Juvenile Justice Board Ganderbal also made participants aware about their role and responsibilities.

He said, if the offender is juvenile his trial will be in Juvenile Justice Board and if the offender is adult then the trial should be in Special courts. He also apprised the participants about role of Police in POCSO Cases.
