Crackdown on drugs: Sopore police arrest peddler, recover 2 kg of poppy straw

In continuation of its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, Sopore Police have arrested one drug peddler and recovered contraband substances from his possession.

A police party of Police Station Sopore headed by SHO PS Sopore Insp. Nissar Ahmad under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Shri. Sarfaraz Bashir-JKPS, at a checkpoint at Adipora Sopore, intercepted one vehicle bearing registration number JK05H-6710.

During the search of the said vehicle, approximately 2 kilograms of contraband Poppy Straw-like substance was recovered. On preliminary verification, the driver disclosed his identity as Farooq Ahmad Mir S/O Abdul Rashid Mir R/O Adipora Sopore.

In this connection, case FIR No. 76/2024 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore & investigation has been initiated.

Sopore police urge the common masses to give information regarding narcotics or any other crimes to the nearest police establishment or dial 112.

The General Public is requested to cooperate with the police in curbing the menace of drugs from society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per the law.
