Child Protection department Reasi acquaints students about their legal rights

REASI, December 22: An activity based program was today organised here in Government Middle School, Gran Morh to engage and encourage the students for different co-curricular activities. The event was held under the supervision of District Child Protection officer, Dr. Palvi Sharma to mark the Good Governance Week (Sushasan Saptah) celebration under the aegis of “Prashasan Gaon Ki Aur” campaign. 

The programme started with a drawing competition in which ten children participated. The children made different paintings highlighting hazards of environmental pollution, soil erosion and the importance of Water conservation. The students with first, second and third positions were awarded. After the painting contest, the students were imparted awareness by the resource persons from the district child protection unit Reasi.  

Legal Officer, Sunali Khajuria threw light on the Mission Vatsalya scheme and highlighted the services provided to the children under the scheme. She also made them aware about their legal and fundamental rights and about the right to survival, development, protection and participation guaranteed under the United Nation convention on the rights of the children (UNCRC). Provisions regarding JJ ACT and POCSO Act were also discussed in detail. 

Protection officer non-institutional care, Vidhushi Gupta apprised the children about the menace of child marriage and child labour and encouraged them to report any such case to their teachers or their parents.

Information regarding child helpline 1098 was also shared by Nidhi Kumari (Protection Officer, non institutional care). She apprised the children that their identity will be kept confidential in all cases.  Social worker of the unit Nazima Akhter threw light on the menace of drugs. 

In the end vote of thanks was presented by Sourav Sharma and Deepak Kumar (outreach workers).
