CBC organises outreach program cum photo exhibition in Changthang

Leh, August 23: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India kick started a three day outreach program cum photo exhibition in Changthang region of Ladakh on August 23.

The photo exhibition is being organised on the theme of 9 Years: Seva,Sushasan aur Garib Kalyan by CBC’s Field Office Leh at the Community Hall in Nyoma. Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nyoma, Jigmet Angchuk inaugurated the three day event in presence of officers and officials of administration and local residents.

The photo exhibition showcases India’s matchless achievements in different fields during the last nine years. Information about various public welfare schemes of the government, especially those launched for the upliftment of the tribal and other vulnerable sections of population is also being provided with the people through informative standees, expert lectures and printed awareness material.

In his presidential address, Jigmet Angchuk said that the program is a first of its kind to be organised in the Changthang sub-division. Appreciating CBC for reaching out to the people of the border area, he impressed upon the public especially the students to amplify the valuable information being displayed through the photo exhibits.

Angchuk called on the locals to visit the exhibition for the remaining two days and listen to the experts who will talk about various public welfare schemes launched by the government. Emphasising on the need for mass awareness about various public welfare schemes, he said that knowledge about different programmes of the government is vital to know about one’s rights and to hold the administration accountable for any lapses.

Field Publicity Officer,CBC, Leh, Shahid Mohammad Lone, in his welcome address gave a detailed overview about the mandate and activities of CBC and briefed the audience about the programme. He said that mass awareness about various welfare schemes is important to ensure their successful implementation. He thanked the sub-divisional administration Nyoma and district administration Leh for their support and coordination in organising the awareness program.

Child Development Project Officer(CDPO), Nyoma, Zarina Bano in an exhaustive interaction with the audience comprising mostly of women and adolescent girls provided a detailed overview of the programmes being implemented for the nutritional support and well being of the children, adolescents, pregnant women and lactating mothers. She detailed out the objectives of the POSHAN Abhiyan and PM Matritva Vandhana Yojana and related programmes.

An open quiz competition was organised on the occasion in which local public and students from different schools participated. The questionnaire was designed to assess the know-how of the people about the government schemes and relevant information was disseminated in an interactive manner.

Earlier, in the run up to the main event, CBC, Leh organised two programs to mobilise the public to visit the three day exhibition. These pre-event activities were organised at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) and Government Higher Secondary School, Nyoma on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

Similarly, Field Publicity Officer, CBC, Shahid Mohammad Lone informed that over the next two days information about welfare schemes in the sector of agriculture and health will be provided.
