Youth sporting spirit soars in B’la: Inter-Zonal/ Inter School Competitions engage 300 students
BARAMULLA, MAY 19: Youth Services and Sports, District Baramulla, today successfully organised the Inter-Zonal District Level Chess Competition for All Age Groups (AAG) under 14, 17, and 19 boys and girls at two separate venues.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from student players across 18 zones of the district.
The Boys’ Chess Competition was held at High School Khawaja Bagh. In the under-14 category, 34 students participated, while the under-17 category saw participation from 32 students, and the under-19 category included 8 students from various higher secondary schools.
Simultaneously, the Girls’ Chess Competition was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Baramulla. A total of 36 students competed in the under-14 category, 35 students in the under-17 category, and 2 students participated in the under-19 category.
In addition to the chess event, several inter-school zonal level badminton competitions were also held today. YSS Zone Rohama organised the Under-14 Girls Badminton Competition at HS Tragpora, with 42 students from different schools participating. YSS Zone Dangiwacha conducted Under-14 and Under-17 Boys Badminton Competitions at HSS Dangiwacha, which saw participation from 50 students in the under-14 category and 21 in the under-17 category.
Meanwhile, YSS Zone Singpora Kalan organised the Under-14 and Under-17 Boys Badminton Competitions at HS Delina, attracting 75 players from various government and private institutions. In the Under-14 Singles category, Munawar from DPS Delina emerged victorious, while in the Under-17 category, Saqib Mohammad from HSS Delina clinched the title. In Doubles, Mohammad Fahiq and Mohammad Saman from DPS Delina won the Under-14 category, and Sahil Manzoor and Kabir Khurshid from HSS Delina bagged the Under-17 title.
DYSSO Baramulla commended the participation and sportsmanship of all students and reiterated the department’s commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting physical education and sports culture across the district.
