World Bee Day celebrated at Udhampur to promote Pollinator Conservation

UDHAMPUR, MAY 20: World Bee day was celebrated in Udhampur District with the theme “Bee inspired by nature to nourish us all”. The theme highlights the vital role of bees and other pollinators in the Agrifood system, biodiversity and global food security.


Emphasis was given to the importance of bees and other pollinators for the environment, Agriculture and human well-being. Farmers were educated about pollinators’ crucial role towards sustainable development of the planet earth and to raise awareness about the threat they face in different locations of the District.


Chief Agriculture Officer Harbans Singh and apiculture Development Officer Pawan Talwar organised programme in meeting Hall of CAO Office Udhampur which was attended by children of India Kids public school. CAO informed that the world Bee day promotes efforts to protect and conserve bees and highlights their importance.

He reiterated that the campaign aims to educate people about pollinators and the challenges they face such as habitat loss,climate change,pesticide use and disease.
As many as 88 farmers are engaged in beekeeping activities in the District by rearing Apis mellifera species and approximately 200 farmers are also rearing apis Cerana species in Moungri,Pancheri and Dudu Basantgarh blocks of the District.
