Vikramaditya seeks scientific assessment of Parnote catastrophe, rehabilitation of affected people

JAMMU: Vikramaditya Singh, former MLC, sought thorough scientific assessment of the land sinking incident in Ramban District’s Parnote area while demanding rehabilitation of the affected families In a statement issued to media persons, the former MLC said that the top priority of the government should be to shift all the inhabitants of the affected area to safer places and compensate them adequately to ensure that these people can restart their lives and thrive once again. He fully supported the demands raised by over 500 victims of Parnote village seeking adequate compensation and relief, and lands at safer places for their permanent rehabilitation.

Vikramaditya mentioned that a similar incident took place in Saddal-Panjar village in Udhampur district on September 6, 2014, wherein 40 people died and 65 houses were damaged in the landslide incident. He said that unprecedented cases of similar nature in J&K and in other states as well like Uttarakhand are indicative of a bigger threat.

He demanded that the government should rope in top level experts of the country to find the exact reason behind this catastrophe and find out the causes as well as remedy to stop such disasters in near future.

The former MLC said that the government should also ponder and probe whether the ‘uncontrolled’ development being carried out in the mountainous pockets of the UT is behind these cases and if so then the helmsmen should took adequate measures to undo the damage and reinstate sustainable development practices for safety of one and all.
