Train to Kashmir marks historic moment in J&K’s Journey: M.K Ajatshatru Singh
Lauds PM Modi for honouring Dogra legacy, transforming development map of J&K with pride
Jammu, June 6: Senior BJP leader and former Minister, M.K Ajatshatru Singh, has hailed the launch of the first-ever train service from Katra to Kashmir as a “historic and emotional milestone”, marking the fulfilment of Maharaja Pratap Singh’s visionary dream from over 130 years ago.
Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagging off of the Vande Bharat Express to Kashmir and inauguration of the world’s highest Chenab Railway Bridge, the former minister described the occasion as a “monumental moment in the history of Jammu and Kashmir”.
“The idea of a rail link to Kashmir was first proposed by my great-grandfather, Maharaja Pratap Singh, in 1892. Though multiple surveys and reports were carried out by British engineers between 1898 and 1909, the dream remained unrealised. Today, under the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this long-cherished vision has finally taken shape,” said M.K Ajatshatru Singh.
The senior BJP leader added that the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) stands as a shining symbol of national integration, engineering excellence, and visionary governance. Declared a national project in 2002, the USBRL has overcome massive topographical, geological, and logistical challenges, culminating in a feat of modern infrastructure.
“This is not just about trains. It is about connecting hearts, cultures, and economies. PM Modi has turned a royal vision into a reality that benefits every citizen of the Union Territory,” he said.
The former Minister has praised the Modi government for not only reviving the long-forgotten project but delivering it with scale, speed, and sensitivity. With 38 tunnels and 927 bridges—including the iconic Chenab Bridge—the project will boost tourism, local livelihoods, and national security.
M.K Ajatshatru Singh expressed gratitude to PM Modi for honouring the Dogra legacy and transforming the development map of Jammu & Kashmir with purpose and pride.
