Tourism Department Organises Training Programme for Taxi and Tempo Drivers in Leh

Leh, May 22, 2025: The Tourism Department, Leh, successfully conducted a training programme for taxi and tempo drivers today at the CIBS Hall, Choglamsar, Leh.
The programme aimed to promote awareness of road safety and educate drivers on providing better services to tourists. Key focus areas included the essentials of hospitality, cultural sensitivity, effective communication, and sustainable practices.


Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Leh, Sonam Norbu, addressed the gathering and emphasized the pivotal role of drivers in shaping first impressions of Ladakh and urged them to serve not only as transport providers but as informed, courteous, and responsible representatives of the community.


Dy. SP Hqrs DPO Leh, Sonam Angchuk, shared practical guidance and encouraged drivers to follow traffic regulations and maintain safe driving practices. He also sensitised participants to essential guidelines for drivers, highlighted the importance of cautious driving, responding effectively to emergencies such as accidents, and being informed about protected areas.


Landscape Coordinator, WWF- India, Rohit Rattan, spoke on wildlife conservation, urging drivers to discourage tourists from feeding wild animals such as marmots and wild asses. He stressed the importance of preserving Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem and natural heritage.


The event concluded with a session conducted by faculty members from SIHM/FCI. This session provided an overview of basic hospitality etiquette, communication skills, and techniques for handling tourists with courtesy and professionalism.


The President, Taxi Union and the Secretary, Tempo Union appreciated the Tourism Department and all resource persons for organizing the insightful and practical training session, acknowledging its value in enhancing driver awareness and contributing to the overall improvement of tourism services in Ladakh.


Earlier in the program, Assistant Director, Tourism, Padma Angmo, welcomed the attendees and encouraged them to provide a safe, pleasant, and memorable experience for all visitors.
