Theatre Festival titled “Trikuta Natya Ustav ” inaugurated in Matrika Auditorium SMVDU, Katra

 REASI March 13: Theatre Festival “Trikuta Nataya Utsav”, is being held from 13th to 21st March 2023 in the University Campus during which reputed Theatre groups of Jammu will perform.

The theatre festival will provide an opportunity to the audience to acquaint with the rich theatre culture of Jammu region.

Speaking on the inauguration of the festival Vice Chancellor SMVDU Prof. RK Sinha said that cultural heritage is the spirit and soul of any society and the need is to project the same to the younger generation. He said that we have a rich tradition of theatre and the event will give opportunity to the students to relish the excellent performances. He said that there are challenges for revival of art, culture and languages but we have to work collectively and come up with more such events. Prof. Sinha said that the festival will provide an opportunity to the artists to showcase their talent and inspire students towards theatre.

While speaking on the occasion, Narsingh Dev Jamwal noted Dogri Play writer and Padama shree awardee said that Jammu has notable playwriters and the challenge is to do justice to their literary works. “Jammus theatre landscape has been enriched by noted playwriters, directors and theatre artists.” He paid tribute to Kavi Rattan in bringing modern theatre to Jammu and enriching the discipline of performing arts.  He lauded the efforts of late Kavi Rattan in laying foundation of serious drama movement in Jammu and Kashmir.

Many prominent theatre personalities were also present on the occasion.

On the inaugural day, the theatre group Viraj Kala Kendra performed Shah-Shahni Dogri drama enthralling the audience. The other plays that are going to be performed during the festival included Pagla Ghoda (Hindi) by Young Hill Thespians, Bali and Shambu (Hindi) by Bhartiya Kaaa Sangam, Teeth (Nukkad-Dogri) by Ranhgyug, Ashad Ka ek Din (Hindi) .

Chairman BCA, Dr. Rakesh informed about the activities to be carried out during the theatre festival.

 Dr. Kamni, Vice Chairman Board of Cultural Activities (BCA) in her welcome address gave a brief about the different phases of theatre in SMVDU and urged upon all to contribute towards making the festival a success.
