Substance Abuse & our Collective Responsibilities: GDC Kishtwar organises E- Seminar 

KISHTWAR, May 06: A one day e-seminar  on ‘Substance Abuse (Drug Addiction & De- addiction) and our collective responsibilities’ was organized  by Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College  Kishtwar in collaboration with District Police Kishtwar.

Guest speakers invited for the program included Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Er Khalil Poswal (JKPS) and renowned clinical psychologist from Kashmir Dr Mohammad Muzaffar Khan.

The program was conducted under the direction of Principal Dr. Jyoti Parihar.

Prof. Faisal Mushtaq, Coordinator Red Ribbon Club GDC Kishtwar modulated the programme and at the outset introduced the guest speakers to the audience, mostly students of semester 2nd, 4th and 6th. The Program began with the welcome address by Asif Kohli , student of 6th semester.

SSP Kishtwar, in his address, stressed on the need to spread awareness among youth, especially students against the dangerous trend of drug addiction in the district which has witnessed a sharp rise in the recent past. According to him , thirteen FIRs have been registered against the drug peddlers in the last two months. He assured the audience that the Drug Testing Kit will be soon introduced in the district to identify the Drug addicts and the drug peddlers providing them the same.

He assured all possible help for any inconvenience faced by students because of this serious menace. Prof. Sushil Kumar, member RRC,  also participated in the proceedings of the programme.

Dr Mohd. Muzaffar Khan, a renowned  Clinical Psychologist and  Director Youth Development & Rehabilitation Centre(YDRC) Kashmir, in his lecture, explained in detail the circumstances which lead to drug addiction among youth. He advised the students to stay alert and identify the drug addicts in their surroundings and accordingly inform the concerned officials including the district police. He also stressed on the lifestyle modification and other such activities necessary for good mental health. It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Khan has been a founding member of J&K police Drug De-Addiction services and established the first private drug de- addiction facility in J&K under the name Aaghaz.

At the end a question answer session was also held in which the audience asked various questions and got their doubts cleared from both the guest speakers. Vote of thanks was presented by Muntaqeen ul Islam, B.A 6th semester student.
