In a significant step towards strengthening community engagement and fostering cooperation between law enforcement agencies and educational institutions, Dr. Varun Dutta, NCC Coordinator, and Dr. Rajiv Kumar, NSS Coordinator of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), actively participated in the “Thana Diwas” function organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Police under the Civic Action Programme at Police Post Kakryal.

The event was held in the presence of senior police officials including Sh. Paramvir Singh (SSP Reasi), Sh. Vipin Chandran (SDPO Katra), and Sh. Bhism Dubey, along with several representatives from nearby villages. The objective of the Thana Diwas initiative is to enhance police-public interaction, address grievances at the grassroots level, and build trust between the community and the police force. Dr. Varun Dutta and Dr. Rajiv Kumar addressed the large gathering comprising local villagers, students, and police personnel. During their address, they provided an overview of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, detailing the various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes offered across disciplines such as engineering, sciences, humanities, management, and social sciences. They emphasized the university’s commitment to academic excellence, research, and holistic student development. In addition to academics, the coordinators also highlighted the various community outreach and social initiatives undertaken by the university through its NCC and NSS units. These include regular blood donation camps, tree plantation drives, the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” (Drug-Free India Campaign), awareness drives against sexual harassment, and various cleanliness and health awareness campaigns. These initiatives aim to instill a sense of social responsibility and civic consciousness among students while contributing meaningfully to society. The event was meticulously coordinated by Sh. Rajat Magotra, Sub-Inspector, Police Post Kakryal, and his dedicated team, who ensured the smooth conduct of the programme and facilitated constructive dialogue between the police and the local population. The participation of SMVDU’s representatives in the Thana Diwas programme was appreciated by the attendees and police officials alike. It marked a positive step toward greater collaboration between academic institutions and law enforcement bodies in addressing social challenges, promoting awareness, and encouraging youth engagement in nation-building activities.
