SKUAST-K, KVK Budgam organizes EAP on Composting Methods for Organic Waste Decomposition

BUDGAM, October 25: One day Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme (EAP) on ‘Composting Methods for Organic Waste Decomposition’ was today organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Budgam, SKUAST-K for Rural Youth of Soibugh Budgam.

The aim of such Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) programmes is to empower youth to establish their own ventures and emerge as job providers rather than employment seekers.

Dr. Bhinish Shakeel (Sr. Scientist Home Science KVK Budgam) deliberated on Composting as a useful technique of recycling farm wastes to wealth. She also stressed on practicing composting at the household level for managing organic waste for reducing environmental impacts of waste.

Dr. Shazia Ramzan (SMS Soil Science) discussed how composting replenishes nutrients and organic matter, sustains moisture and plant growth, increases plant uptake of fertilizers, prevents soil erosion and reduces irrigation requirements.

Practical demonstration regarding different methods of composting was also carried out at the vermicompost unit of KVK Budgam.

Dr. Ambreen Nabi delivered a lecture on Importance of Composting in Crop Production.

A total of 50 participants attended the awareness programme. Besides, the programme was also attended by other scientists of KVK Budgam.
