SKUAST-K, KVK Budgam organize EAP on Composting Methods for Organic Waste Decomposition

BUDGAM, OCTOBER 12: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Budgam, SKUAST-K today organized a one day Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme (EAP) on “Composting Methods for Organic Waste Decomposition” for farmers of Haran Budgam.

The programme was sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME), GoI and was aimed to sensitize and build entrepreneurial mindset among the farmers and develop their skills so that they can convert waste to wealth.

A total of 50 farmers from the said village attended the awareness programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bilal Ahmad Lone (Sr. Scientist & Head KVK Budgam) stressed on benefits of composting and vermicomposting as it has gained renewed attention in recent years due to its potential to reduce waste and improve soil health. He also discussed the quality of compost and the regulations imposed by various countries in the determination of compost quality.

Dr. Shazia Ramzan (SMS Soil Science) discussed composting and vermicomposting, an effective option for recycling organic wastes. She also discussed different scientific methods of composting and vermicomposting, the degradation rate of organic matter during composting and various methods used to evaluate the compost maturity.

A practical demonstration regarding different methods of composting was also conducted at KVK Budgam farm.

The programme was also attended by other scientists of KVK Budgam.
