Secretary to LG Ravinder Kumar reviews progress of key projects during Changthang region tour

Leh, August 24: The Secretary to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Ladakh/Secretary of Power Development and Animal/Sheep Husbandry Department Ravinder Kumar conducted a comprehensive three days tour of the Changthang region to review the progress of major infrastructure projects being executed under different schemes.

During the tour, the secretary visited and inspected insulated nomadic houses in Tangtse, Parma, Chushul, Chumur, and Mudh regions of the Changthang and interacted with the nomadic families. The nomadic families shared their experience of comfort while using the insulated houses, especially in winter months. He also inquired about the issues of mortality of Pashmina kids during the lean winter season and informed that a winter (underground) shed shall be built to minimize the kid mortality during the winters. He directed the concerned department to submit the list of nomads and start the process before the upcoming winter. Later, he also visited the sites of fodder banks, nomadic museums, and veterinary hospitals being built under the Changthang Development Package. The CPWD, executing agency has been directed to complete all the works during the current season.

On the second day, the Secretary visited the sites identified for the construction of a modern archery field and Ice Hockey Rinks at Chushul and directed the Joint Director of sports to coordinate with the executing agency for the timely execution of the works. Also, during the tour, the power development department was directed to complete the power lines and charge the villages at the earliest. The fodder development initiatives, under the CDP, being executed by the SKUAST/KVK, were also inspected, and directed the SKUAST/KVK and Animal/Sheep Husbandry to cover more areas under fodder development to cater to the need for fodder, especially during the natural disaster/harsh winter.

The tour ended with the Secretary visiting and reviewing the RDSS and extension of 66 KV lines to the border areas of Changthang. He also inspected the Himya Substation and directed the concerned officials to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the area.

The secretary was accompanied by the Joint Director, Sports Department, Chief Engineer PDD, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Executive Engineer PDD, and other officers of the concerned departments.
