Reasi police seize over 2 kg of cannabis, smuggler arrested

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Reasi Police have seized over 2.24 kilograms of cannabis (charas) and arrested one smuggler. The seizure took place on Wednesday in the Domail area of Pouni, near Reasi, as part of ongoing efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the district.

A team from Police Station Pouni was on routine traffic duty when they stopped an Alto car bearing registration number JK17-2289 traveling from Reasi towards Bhambla. During a thorough inspection, officers discovered 2.24 kilograms of charas, wrapped in maize husk and concealed within the car’s window panels.

The driver, identified as Javed Ahmed from Shopian district, was promptly arrested for possessing the illegal substance and the entire cache of cannabis was seized.

A case (FIR No. 03/2024) has been registered under Section 8 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Pouni. Further investigation is currently underway.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of SHO Pouni, supervised by Dy.SP Hqrs. Reasi. SSP Reasi, Amit Gupta -JKPS, emphasized that the Reasi police is unwavering in its commitment to eradicating drug abuse.
