Prohibition on Flying of Drones/UAVs in Leh District

Order under Section 163 of BNSS, 2023:
Whereas, credible inputs and security concerns have been received regarding the potential misuse of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by anti-national elements.

Whereas, in view of the likelihood of threats to public safety, security installations, and the general public, the Superintendent of Police, Leh, vide letter No. CRB/Crime/2025-10071-74, Dated. 08.05.2025, has requested for issuing orders prohibiting flying of drones/UAVs by the general public/tourists.

Now, therefore, in exercise of powers conferred under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, I, Santosh Sukhadeve, IAS, District Magistrate, Leh, hereby order the following with immediate effect and until further orders:

1. The flying, operation, or use of any kind of drone or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) by locals, tourists, or any private persons is strictly prohibited within the entire jurisdiction of Leh district.

2. Any person who observes any drone or UAV flying in violation of this order shall immediately report the same to the Police Control Room (PCR)- at 60060280847 or Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) / Dial 112 or the nearest police/civil authorities.

Any violation of this order shall attract strict legal action under relevant laws.

This order is issued ex-parte in the interest of public safety and security and shall remain in force until further notice.
