Programme on “KISAN DIWAS” organized at KVK Rajouri

RAJOURI, December 23: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Rajouri, under the overall guidance of Prof. J. P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST, Jammu, and directions of Dr. S. K. Gupta, Director Extension, SKUAST, Jammu organized a Programme on “ KISAN SAMMAN DIWAS” to applaud the Role of Farmers in feeding the World and contribution in development of Nation.

Choudhary Darbar, Chairman of the Block Development Council was the chief guest at the program attended by more than 50 farmers including Progressive Farmers and Public Representatives.

District Officers of line departments also actively participated in the event.

Dr. Arvind Kumar Ishar, Senior Scientist & Head of KVK, Rajouri while addressing the participants gave an overview of the importance of celebrating this day. He applauded the role of farmers in contributing to the economy of the nation. Dr. Ishar advised the farmers of the remote tribal district to adopt Scientific Integrated Farming System to enhance their farm income. He talked in detail about the Natural Farming System and Good Agricultural Practices. It was also enjoined upon the farmers to regularly visit KVK, Rajouri, and the Research Station of SKUAST, Jammu to learn various agricultural practices and farming systems.

Dr. Vikas Sharma, Professor, and Head, RARS, Rajouri while interacting with farmers gave a detailed overview of Good Agriculture Practices which, if adopted, may reduce the cost of cultivation and increase farm income. He talked in detail about Integrated Nutrient Management of commonly grown crops in the district. He advised farmers to go for diversified farming with minimum use of chemical fertilizers and other agrochemicals.

Choudhary Darbar, Chairman, BDC, Rajouri in his remarks applauded the role of SKUAST, Jammu in general, and KVK, Rajouri in particular in organizing such programs for general awareness of the farmers of the district. He urged the farmers to regularly visit these institutes to learn about recent advancements in the field of agriculture. He further advised farmers to adopt high-value crops like apricot, pecan nut, popcorn, sweet corn, bell pepper, etc. to double their farm income.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Jb. Qumar Rabbani,  Munshi Khan,  Shafqat  Khan, DHO, and some other progressive farmers.
