Poonch: Fleet of 5 vehicles flagged off for transportation of Tribal families

POONCH, MAY 13: Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonch,  Tahir Mustafa Malik today flagged off 5 trucks/Vehicles for transportation of livestock and migratory tribal families from different locations of District Poonch to highland pastures in Kashmir.              

Among others present on the occasion included PO, ICDS, Khalid Wafa;  District Social Welfare Officer, Mohinder Paul; TSWO, Mohd. Azam Rather and other concerned officers and officials.

 The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that  on the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Yasin M. Choudhary and as per past  practice, District administration  is facilitating the transportation of livestock and migratory tribal families to highland pastures in Kashmir. He further said that seasonal migration of Gujjars and Bakerwal tribal people to the summer destinations in the Valley is an important tradition that has been carried out for generations.  It is crucial for the survival of their livestock and for their livelihoods.

The District Social welfare Officer said that the district administration is providing the vehicles for this migration free of cost, which will ease the burden on the tribal families.

The tribal people expressed gratitude to the district administration for providing the trucks for their seasonal migration free of cost.
