PDP stages protest in Kishtwar

JK faces administrative inertia as BJP takes democracy hostage: Tak

KISHTWAR, June 19: Peoples Democratic Party Monday said that while Bhartiya Janta Party has taken democracy hostage in Jammu and Kashmir, the administration was suffering from performance paralysis leading to the common public issues unaddressed.

“The democracy and democratic institutions have been taken hostage by the Bhartiya Janta Party, while the officials working on ground are more concerned about proving their loyalties to the right wing rather than addressing the issues being confronted by the common masses”, former legislator and member Political  Affairs Committee of PDP said.

Tak was addressing a protest demonstration held by the party workers here against rising unemployment, curtailment of ration scale, unscheduled electricity curtailment, non-functional government offices in remote areas of Marwah, Warwan, Dachan and Paddar besides inability of the local administration to address common issues of general masses.

State Secretary Advocate Sheikh Nasir Hussain, District President Kishtwar Ishtiyaq Hussain Waza besides senior party functionaries from the district participated.

“As the general elections draw nearer the BJP has started its own trick of befooling people in the name of region and religion. The party functionaries are reaching to the people seeking support in the name of Hindu Rashtra and Dharam Yudh to hide its failures over the last several years”, the former legislator said adding that the party has sold every resource of the erstwhile state to corporate heavyweights while the general masses are being emotionally exploited.

He said that Chenab Region has its own political and economic place in Jammu and Kashmir but it is facing serious administrative apathy adding to the miseries of common masses. He said that people were running from pillar to post for redressal of their grievances as there was complete disconnect between the masses and officials.

Advocate Sheikh Nasir Hussain, in his address, said that transparency and accountability in the administration has become a thing of past. “Today rules are openly floated while some officials in the administration work as party workers of the right wing organizations”, he said adding that even the vehicles hired by various construction companies were being used by the officials in the administration, which speaks about the nexus.

The issue of employment, compensation and implementation of RR plans at the power project construction sites has remained confined to the paper work as some officials are directly beneficiary of the construction companies. He warned that people will not remain a mute spectator to this nexus for long.

Earlier scores of political workers from different organizations joined PDP. Prominent among them included Shahnawaz Ahmed Mir, Asif Iqbal Sheikh, Haji Lassa Sheikh, Arshad Ahmed, Muhammad Lateef, Showkat Ali, Mohammad Qayoom, Vinod Kumar, Muneer Hussain, Jatinder Kumar, Ghulam  Mohammad Butt, Imtiyaz Hussain, Abdul Aziz Ahanger, Fida Hussain, Adil Hussain and Muzamil Hussain.
