Old image of crashed aircraft re-circulated by pro-Pak handles: PIB Fact Check

A dated image depicting a crashed aircraft has recently resurfaced and is being widely circulated by pro-Pakistan social media accounts, particularly in the context of the ongoing #OperationSindoor. The image is being shared in various misleading formats, giving the impression that it is related to current military operations.

However, the Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit (#PIBFactCheck) has clarified that the image in question is not recent. It actually originates from an earlier incident involving a MiG-29 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) that crashed in Barmer, Rajasthan, back in September 2024.

The PIB has urged users to verify the authenticity of such images before sharing, as the circulation of outdated or misleading visuals can contribute to misinformation and unnecessary panic.
