Office of the Programme Co-ordinator, NSS JU organises sensitization programme  On ‘Intergenerational bonding’

JAMMU , March 15 : The Office of the Programme Co-ordinator, NSS in collaboration with National Institute of SocialDefence, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and RRTC Anugraha organized Sensitization Programme on the theme ‘Intergenerational Bonding’ on 14thMarch, 2023 in the MIER college of Education for the NSS Volunteers.

Dr. Aabha Choudhary, the Chairperson of the Anugraha was the Chief Guestin the programme. She in her address appreciated the Office of the Programme Coordinator, NSS and the NSS Unit of MIER college of Education for undertaking such types of awareness programmes. Focusing on the various problems of the elderly people, she motivated the younger generation to come forward and contribute towards the social and psychological well-being of the elders.

Prof. Jasbir Singh, Head, Department of Philosophy and Director Centre for the study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policywas the resource person in the programme. Prof Jasbir highlighted the issue and reasons of generational gap and the solutions to bridge this gap. He focused on the role of technology in bringing gap among the generations. Further talking about the family size, he highlighted the various pressures the society undergoes, which laterresults in disintegration of the families. From his vast experience of the fieldwork, he shared various narratives making the session very interesting and thought provoking.

Advocate Deepali, was the second resource person in the event. Ms Deepali focused on the legal aspects of the elderly care and highlighted the various laws and provisions which can be availed by the senior citizens for their rights. She also shared the important helpline numbers regarding the help of the elderly and aged people.

Dr. Hema Gandotra,Programme Coordinator, NSS was the third resource person. During her presentation she highlighted the socio-cultural conditions responsible for the emergence of institutional care structures in the society. She further highlighteddifference in the problems and challenges being faced by the elderly women and men.Focussing on the demographic profile of the different oldage homes in Jammu province, she not just spoke on the facilities and provisions provided to oldage persons in these homes but also threw light on the important concept of “Oldage Homes as an Alternative to Family Institution”.

Dr Aditya Gupta, the Principal of the college appreciated the efforts of the Office of the Programme Coordinator, NSS for organizing these kinds of activities for the volunteers. Dr. Reeta Dwivedi, the NSS Programme Officer of the college coordinated the entire event. Besides students, the faculty members of the college also attended the programme.
