NMBA: IEC campaigns held across schools, municipal areas in Budgam to combat drug abuse

BUDGAM, JUNE 18: In continuation of the district wide campaign under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), a series of IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) events were organised today at various locations in Budgam to raise awareness on the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote community participation in its eradication.

On the occasion, awareness drives were held at Government Middle School Poswal Pora in Negoo, in some areas located in Block Nagam, and extended to various municipal areas of Khansahib.

These events witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teaching staff, youth volunteers, members of civil society, PRIs, and officials from concerned departments.

The sessions were aimed at spreading awareness about the consequences of substance abuse and the importance of adopting a drug-free lifestyle.

Resource persons from the Health, Education, and Social Welfare departments conducted interactive sessions that focused on early signs of addiction, preventive education, and the role of family and community in tackling the issue. Participants were informed about available counselling services, helplines, and de-addiction support centres operating in the district.

As part of the campaign, various engaging activities viz. street plays, poster-making, rallies, and group discussions were also conducted, particularly in schools. These activities helped in effectively communicating the anti-drug message in an impactful and accessible manner, especially to the younger generation.

The events also emphasized the importance of inter-departmental coordination and public cooperation in addressing drug abuse as a collective challenge. Officials reiterated that consistent community-based interventions and youth engagement are key to building a resilient society.

District administration Budgam has intensified the outreach under Nasha Mukt Abhiyan and  has appealed to all stakeholders, parents, teachers, religious leaders, and community influencers to actively support the mission of a drug-free Budgam.
