National Road Safety Week-2023: Swachhata Pakhwara commences in District Kishtwar

MVD organises sensitisation campaign for Drivers

KISHTWAR, January 11: Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India, is observing the Road Safety Week from 11th to 17th January 2023, under “Swachhata Pakhwada” to propagate the cause of safer roads for all.

A range of activities are being organised throughout the Country to create awareness among the general public and to give an opportunity to all stakeholders to contribute to the cause of road safety.

On the day first, Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) Kishtwar under the supervision of ARTO Romesh Samotra, organised a sensitisation programme here at various traffic laden spots including the Thathri Check Naka on NH-244 for the driver community.

The sensitisation programme aimed to propagate the cause of safer roads for all.

A total of 40 to 50 bus and truck drivers were imparted awareness about the number of hours of driving, safe driving etiquettes, sleeping hours, resting hours etc running on the highway.

During the program, the drivers were made aware about the road safety measures like putting on seat belts, avoiding overtaking, stopping use of mobile phones while driving, heeding to red signals and shunning unnecessary honking.

They were educated about  common traffic violations such as over speeding, jumping traffic signals, drunken driving, unnecessary honking, violations of designated traffic zones, not wearing seat belts, riding without helmets, modification of two-wheelers and the use of mobile phones while driving, among others are the main causes of mishaps.

The traffic authorities urged the drivers to be mindful of duties and responsibilities while driving and having self restraint in speeding limits is a way forward towards changing driving behaviours.

At various places, the drivers were sensitized about motor vehicle norms and they were encouraged to follow all traffic rules to ensure their safety as well as the safety of others.

They were sensitized  that the adherence to laws can avert most of the road accidents besides making commutation hassle-free.
