Nabard opens new office in Jaisalmer district

Jaisalmer, Jun 20 (PTI) National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) on Tuesday opened a new office in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district to cater to the developmental needs of the border area.

Nabard Chief General Manager Rajiv Siwach, who inaugurated the District Development Manager Office, said Jaisalmer is an aspirational district of Niti Aayog in Rajasthan and the new office will help in augmenting its efforts.

“It will facilitate banking outlets in the development of border areas by launching schemes for the creation of rural infrastructure under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), enhancing capital investment in agriculture and promoting a better quality of life for the rural people,” he said while speaking at the inauguration.

He said that the Nabard office would also guide the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies into transforming themselves as multi-service centres.

“Financial literacy camps at village, block and district levels will be conducted regularly to expand the banking footprint and digital infrastructure in the district. Project-based interventions to promote farm innovations, technology transfer and capacity building of the farming community would also be taken up as a priority by Nabard,” he said.

Siwach said that Nabard will also undertake various initiatives under the farm and off-farm sector to bring the excluded rural youth of the border areas into the mainstream economy.

“Skill development programmes, promotion of joint liability groups at block and village level, development of handicraft clusters, etc. will improve the economic dynamics of the region,” he said.

Nabard, an apex development bank owned by the central government, promotes sustainable and equitable agriculture and rural development.

With the opening of the Jaisalmer office, Nabard now has its DDM Offices in 23 districts of the state, covering the operations of the entire 33 districts with its regional headquarters in Jaipur.
