Mehbooba Mufti accuses ruling party of prioritizing political interests over women’s safety

In a scathing Twitter post, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti, has taken a direct swipe at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of prioritizing political interests over the safety and security of women. The tweet comes in the wake of recent incidents where alleged sexual predators have been granted anticipatory bail and parole, raising concerns about justice and accountability for victims.

Mehbooba Mufti, a prominent political leader in the region, expressed her concerns and outrage on social media over the handling of two sensitive cases involving alleged sexual offenders. The first case involved a perpetrator who preyed on female wrestlers, while the second case revolved around a self-proclaimed godman accused of sexual assault. Both individuals were granted relief in the form of anticipatory bail and parole, respectively, raising eyebrows and sparking public outcry.

In her hard-hitting tweet, Mufti accused the ruling party of shedding “crocodile tears” on one hand while neglecting to take firm action against sexual offenders who secure political interests. She pointed out the irony of the government’s slogan “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child) and how it appeared to lose its significance when confronted with powerful individuals accused of sexual misconduct.
