Market Checking intensified across Shopian

Erring traders fined, dozens of FBUs inspected, substandard/ expiry food Items destroyed

SHOPIAN, June 28: In order to prevent profiteering and black marketing in the district ahead of the auspicious festival of Eid-ul-Adha, the Special Market Checking teams today intensified market checking in all Tehsils of Shopian.  

The drives were conducted on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb to curb the practice of illegal profiteering and ensure all essential commodities are sold at Government approved rates as per the quality standards with sufficient availability of consumables ahead of the Eid ul Adha festivities. 

 The Market Checking Squads comprised of staff from Revenue, Police, Food Safety, MC, FCS&CA, etc. under the supervision of SDM Zainapora, Tehsildars and NTs, conducted intensive market checking in Main town Shopian, Keller, Zainapora, Hermain and elsewhere across the district.

During the drive, teams inspected a number of markets during which several erring shopkeepers were found failing to maintain the quality of food items, not displaying rate lists of essential commodities and selling expired products and were fined on the spot amounting to more than Rs.10000 

 In addition, huge quantities of substandard food items including fruits and vegetables were destroyed besides polythene bags damaged on the spot.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner, Shopian today visited Shopian town and took stock of the availability of essentials and supervised market checking.

    He asked the Market checking teams to continue the drive even after Eid-ul-Adha.
