Unakoti (Tripura) [India], May 2 (ANI): A middle-aged man killed himself by slashing his throat with a sharp weapon at Kailasahar in Tripura’s Unakoti on Thursday morning, said police.

Ramakant Mitra, aged 38, a professional driver by trade, was discovered lifeless in his home, his throat grievously slit and blood pooling around him. Family members were the first to stumble upon the ghastly scene and promptly alerted local authorities. Responding swiftly to the distress call, the fire brigade and police arrived at the scene.

“Upon receiving a distress call reporting an accident, we promptly responded and discovered a man, identified as Ramakant Mitra, aged 35, lying in a pool of blood. Recognizing the severity of the situation, we immediately contacted the authorities and provided assistance until medical personnel arrived,” Sanjiv Sinha, a Fire Service official said.

However, upon reaching the hospital, he was declared dead.

Initial investigations reveal that Mitra acted alone in his final moments. However, the motive behind such a drastic step remains a mystery. Authorities have ruled out foul play and are treating the case as a suicide.
