JU Celebrates Telecommunication & Information Day                   

JAMMU, May 17: Telecommunication and Information Society Day-2023 was celebrated in the Department of Computer Science & IT, University of Jammu, in technical collaboration with The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Jammu Sub-Centre today on 17th of May, 2023.

This day has been celebrated on 17th of May, since 1969, to mark the foundation of the International Telecom Union (ITU) and signing of First International Telegraph Convention in the year 1865. Prof. Pawanesh Abrol, Head of Department, while welcoming the participants and the members emphasized the importance of Telecommunication and Information sharing, specifically in the present digital age.

He highlighted the academic and research events that are being organized in the Department for the benefit of students from time to time.

Sh. Joy Ganjoo, Chairman, IETE Jammu, appreciated the efforts of the department in organizing such events.

Sh. Joy Ganjoo explained the timeline of the telecommunication events and how it bridges the digital divide to bring awareness among the people.

Dr. Lalit Sen Sharma, Professor, Department of Computer Science & IT, highlighted the importance of communication and the role played by the latest leading edge technologies in the development of the nation.

Er. Vijay Sharma, Hon. Secretary, IETE Jammu, read the message received from the President IETE, HQ New Delhi. On this occasion, two invited talks were organized. Dr. Arvind Selwal, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Central University, Jammu, gave an invited talk cum demonstration on the topic : Fingerprinting Biometrics for Human Authentication.

Dr. Arvind explained about the working of fingerprinting biometrics systems for human authentication along with practical demonstration on the design and implementation of fingerprinting based human recognition systems. The second session was taken by Ms. Surbhi Kohli, Owner & Director Life Skills Scoop, on the topic : Communication Skills for Confidence Building & Personality Development.

Ms. Surbhi Kohli emphasized the need of inculcating different values and skills for overall development of an individual. Sh. Jasbir Singh, Assistant Professor, from the department presented the formal vote of thanks.
