J&K School Education Department allows one-time age relaxation for Class 1 Admissions

The J&K School Education Department has just made an announcement that will bring some relief to parents and schools alike, allowing a one-time age relaxation for Class 1 admissions in Jammu Division (excluding winter zones) for the 2025–26 academic year.

According to the new guidelines issued, children who were in Nursery during the 2022–23 session can now apply for Class 1, even if they haven’t turned six by the usual cut-off date, which is March 31. For this year only, the age limit has been extended to September 30, 2025.

Officials have shared that this easing of the rules is meant to assist students who narrowly miss the cut-off by just a few months because of the recent policy updates. However, they’ve made it clear that this is a one-time exception. Beginning with the 2026–27 session, the March 31 cut-off will be firmly enforced, following the NEP guidelines.
All Educational Institutions are directed to adhere to the issued order to simplify the admission process for the students and avoid any confusion.
