J&K Excise Dept holds anti-drug chess tournament in Udhampur

Udhampur, May 19: As part of its ongoing campaign to combat drug abuse and promote healthy lifestyles among youth, the J&K Excise Department, Udhampur-Reasi Range, in collaboration with the District Chess Association Udhampur, organised a Chess Tournament at Subhash Stadium, here today.

The tournament was held under the theme “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Life”, underscoring the message of making positive life choices and channelizing energy toward constructive activities like sports.

The event was conducted under the guidance of Excise Commissioner J&K, Sh. Subash Chibber, and the close supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu, Sh. Sanjay Kumar Bhat.

The tournament witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 50 players from various age groups and genders. With high participation of the players, the event also reflected a strong community spirit and shared commitment toward a drug-free society.

The Chief Guest, in his address, lauded the Excise Department for its proactive initiative while highlighting the crucial role sports can play in shaping a disciplined, goal-oriented generation. He encouraged the youth to adopt sports as a meaningful and healthy alternative to negative influences.

In their remarks, officials from the Excise Department reiterated their dedication to raising awareness about the perils of drug abuse. They highlighted the department’s multifaceted strategy in engaging youth through meaningful events and collaborations.

“The event is a step forward in the Department’s broader mission to create a drug-free society by empowering the younger generation through education, awareness, and engagement in healthy pursuits,” they said.

All participants were presented with appreciation certificates and refreshments, while the winners received merit certificates and trophies in recognition of their performance and sportsmanship.
