Jammu University’s DSW organizes Dance Workshop

Jammu, Jan 01: The Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu welcomed the New Year by organizing a Dance Workshop for the students, staff and wards of University employees. Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Prakash Antahal informed that students have got a golden opportunity to learn the nuances of Dance by eminent exponent of Kathak, Ms. Manju Wazir and urged the participants to utilize this opportunity for their overall personality development.

Ms. Manju Wazir is Visharad in Kathak from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal and has done Post Graduate-5 years Diploma Course in Kathak Dance from Kathak Kendra New Delhi. She has been a troupe member of J&K Cultural Academy from 1985 to 1989 & has performed in stage programmes all over the Country. She has learnt Kathak under the guidance of Late Pt. Durga Lalji and Sh.Munna Lal Shuklaji and has been awarded Scholarship by Kathak Kendra in 1992 for pursuing the Advanced Post Diploma course. She has actively participated in ballets & compositions of the Great Maestro Pt. Birju Maharaj. She also participated in the Japan cultural exchange programme held by Naragukuen Tomigaoka School in Nara, Japan in Oct’ 2019.

Earlier in her welcome address, Prof. Monika Chadha informed that under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Umesh Rai, esteemed Vice Chancellor, the Department of Students Welfare in coordination with Campus Cultural Committee of University of Jammu has prepared a vibrant calendar of events which will certainly vivify the cultural landscape of University.

The events of DSW are conceived, planned and organised by the team consisting of Prof. Prakash Antahal (Dean Students Welfare), Prof. Monika Chadha (Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee), Prof. Sarika Manhas (Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee), Dr. Pritam Singh (Associate Dean SW), Dr. Garima Gupta (Assistant Dean, SW), Dr. Shallu Sharma & Dr. A.R. Manhas (Deputy Proctors), members of Campus Cultural Committee, Ms Mansi Mantoo (Media Officer), Ifra Kak (Cultural Officer) and Sumeet Sharma (Drama Instructor).

Those who are attending the workshop include Kavya Jandial, Nyra Gandotra, Prajval Antahal, Urvashi, Mohd. Arif, Dr. Savita Nayar, Shivani Sharma, Neevedita Sharma, Kashish Verma, Salani Adhikari, Simran, Divya, Bhoomi, Sarnish, Tavishi Amla, Harshit Kour, Maskeen. The hall management was looked after by Kulbhushan Thakur and Arif Paul.
