Jammu University organises 2-day workshop ‘Design and Development of SWAYAM-MOOCs’

Jammu, May 27: Coordinator SWAYAM-MOOCs in collaboration with Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA), University of Jammu organised 2 day workshop on Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for its faculty members on 26th and 27th May, 2023. The workshop was carried out with the primary objective of sensitizing the participants about MOOCs and providing them necessary skills for designing and developing e-content in their respective knowledge domain, to be hosted on SWAYAM and other similar platforms.

Sharing the vision behind the workshop Coordinator SWAYAM-MOOCs, JU Prof. Sarika Manhas mentioned that advancement in technology and changing educational scenario requires higher education in India to reorient itself by adopting dynamic approach through consistent training and development of its workforce. Faculty in HEIs need to keep themselves relevant by constantly upgrading their teaching quality and also incorporating technology in their pedagogical framework, she added. The workshop “Design and Development of Digital Content” is in consonance with the three cardinal principles of National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020 – access, equity, and quality as these three can be achieved through the use of digital platforms.  

The resource persons for the workshop were Prof. B.S. Balaji, School of Biotechnology, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; Dr. Aerum Khan, Department of TT and NFE, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi; and Dr. Shri Ram Yadav, Department of Biosciences and Bio engineering, IIT Roorkee.

During the two days of the workshop the participants were trained in designing MOOCS based in four quadrant approach, creating and transacting in flipped classroom settings, effective content delivery mechanisms, OERs, and assessment and certification of MOOC courses. Hands-on training was provided to the participants in developing Expression of Interest (EoI),

44 faculty members belonging to the different departments attended the workshop. Prominent among those who contributed in successful organization of the workshop were Prof. Namrata Sharma, Convener, JU-LMS, Er. Anik Gupta, Director Centre for IT enabled services and management, and Dr. Ginny Dogra, Deputy Director DIQA. While, Dr. Hema Gandotra (Department of Sociology), Dr. Suresh Rao (Department of Computer science and IT), Dr. Sandeep Arya (Department of Physics), Dr. Nisha Kapoor (school of Biotechnology), Dr. Rakesh Kumar (Department of Zoology), and Dr. Mandeep Singh (Directorate of Sports and Physical education) were members of the organizing committee.
