Jammu University Alumnus Sr Adv Gaurav Pachnanda Appointed as Barrister in England and Wales on Fast Track Basis

The United Kingdom’s Bar Standards Board has appointed Gaurav Pachnanda as a Barrister in England and Wales. Pachnanda was fast-tracked and granted an unconditional exemption from the usual academic and vocational components of qualification and training. The formal ceremony, which took place at Middle Temple London, was presided over by The Right Hon Lord Lloyd-Jones, Justice of the Supreme Court of UK.

Foreign qualified lawyers, such as Senior Advocates, are ordinarily required to take some parts of the Bar Transfer Test, followed by a short pupillage, before being called to the Bar of England and Wales. However, an exemption from this is granted only in exceptional cases based on the lawyer’s body of work, professional experience, and expertise in law.

Pachnanda practices as a Senior Advocate in Delhi and also has a practice in international commercial arbitration in London and Singapore, which he undertakes from Fountain Court Chambers in both cities.

Pachnanda studied law at the University of Jammu and Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford, where he was elected a Felix Scholar. He has previously worked with P&A Law Offices before resuming his independent practice. From 2010 to 2015, he served as Senior Additional Advocate General for the State of Jammu and Kashmir before the Supreme Court, and he was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2011.
