‘International Labour Day’ commemorated at Sgr, B’gam, Pul & Shpn

Events underscored commitment towards supporting the welfare & rights of workers

SRINAGAR, MAY 01: In order to highlight the significance of labour rights and generate awareness about the importance of the day, District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) across all the districts of Kashmir today observed ‘International Labour Day’ also known as Global Workers Day with great enthusiasm and fervor.

The day is marked every year on May 1st as a celebration of working-class people, recognizing their contribution to society and promoting worker’s rights and opportunities.

The event was successfully conducted under the leadership of Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority and under the supervision of Shazia Tabassum, Member Secretary J&K Legal Services Authority.

AT SRINAGAR, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, organized an event to commemorate International Labour Day at the ADR Centre, District Court Complex Srinagar.

The programme, held under the supervision of Tasleem Arief, Chairman DLSA Srinagar (Principal District & Sessions Judge) witnessed the presence of, Secretary DLSA Srinagar, Sajad Ur Rehman; officials, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel, DLSA Srinagar officials of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, and Para Legal Volunteers.

During the event, Secretary DLSA emphasized the importance of International Labour Day, highlighting the need to uphold and protect the rights of workers. He underlined the value of ensuring that all workers are treated with dignity, fairness, and respect, and reaffirmed the DLSA’s commitment to advancing legal awareness and support for labourers in the region.

Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel, Tasneem Kausar, also addressed the gathering, shedding light on the global objectives of International Labour Day. She stressed the importance of promoting fair labour practices, improving working conditions, and extending social security to the working class, especially those from marginalized sections.

The goal of the event was to reinforce awareness about the necessity of protecting the rights of workers and fostering a culture that promotes their welfare. The observance served as a meaningful platform to reiterate institutional dedication toward safeguarding labour dignity in all forms.

AT BUDGAM, District Legal Services Authority under the aegis of J&K Legal Services Authority, observed an awareness Campaign on the occasion of International Labour Day at District Budgam.

The event was successfully conducted under the Supervision of O.P Bhagat, Chairman DLSA Budgam.

The programme was successfully organised and conducted under the guidance of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Budgam.

DLSA Budgam in its unique initiative and in order to reach the unreached visited various prime destinations of Labourers like brick kilns etc and imparted awareness on ground through its LADCs.

The objective of organizing this programme was to celebrate and recognize the hard work of the labour class and to appreciate their contribution towards the society

   Speaking on the occasion, Deputy LADC, Javaid Ahmad Mir highlighted the importance of International Labour Day. He said, this day is observed with an aim to raise awareness about the struggles and the contributions of the workers and the working class to society, and it helps us to recognize the contributions of the labourers and the working class in development of the society and the country.

He added, “Workers are playing an important role in society and they are the backbone of a society. We should ensure that we take care of their wellbeing regularly and listen to their issues.”

He raised awareness among the participants about various Acts, and also apprised them about schemes available for labourers in different Govt. departments. He urged participants to educate their parents as well as locals about the acts and schemes available for them.

Deputy LADC Budgam, Nazir Ahmad Wagay spoke on different labour legislations and Govt Schemes available to the Labours. He imparted awareness on ground and deliberated upon various legal rights to the Labour class.

The event was also attended by the staff members of DLSA, PLVs, general public etc.

AT PULWAMA, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Pulwama, under the chairmanship of Malik Shabir Ahmad (Principal District & Sessions Judge, Pulwama) organised an awareness programme today in collaboration with Assistant Labour Commissioner, Pulwama to mark ‘International Labour Day.’

The event was held in the conference hall of SIDCO IGC, Lassipora Pulwama, under the theme ‘Safety and Health of Workers,’ with a focus on promoting safe and healthy work environments across all sectors.

On the occasion, Assistant Labour Commissioner Pulwama delivered a special address, shedding light on various legislative measures aimed at the welfare and protection of the labour force. He emphasised key labour welfare laws enshrined in the Indian Constitution and their vital role in upholding the rights and dignity of workers.

Speakers from DLSA Pulwama, including the Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) and Assistant LADCs also spoke during the event. They highlighted the importance of the programme, focusing on the menace of child labour, relevant legislative provisions for its eradication and the constitutional safeguards that protect the rights of children in India.

The programme witnessed active and enthusiastic participation from students, labourers, staff members and other stakeholders.

AT SHOPIAN, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Shopian in collaboration with Labour Department Shopian today celebrated ‘International Labour Day’ at Shopian.

The event was held under the direction and guidance of Chairman DLSA Shopian, Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary.

The programme was attended by Dr. Nida Yousuf, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Shopian; Rafie Ahmad, Chief LADC; Dawood Khan Deputy LADC; Meenu Jan, Assistant LADC Shopian; PLVs, officials of Labour Department and a large number of laborers.

Chief LADC delivered an insightful address on labour laws and the mechanisms to safeguard workers’ rights. He highlighted the pivotal role of DLSA in ensuring legal aid and protection for labourers, stressing the need for awareness and enforcement of labour regulations. 

Assistant Labour Commissioner, Shopian emphasized the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare and discussed ongoing initiatives to improve working conditions.

Deputy LADC and Assistant LADC further elaborated on legal remedies available to labourers and the importance of accessible justice.
