26 April 2024, New Delhi: A routine flight from Jammu to Delhi turned into a nerve-wracking ordeal for passengers aboard an IndiGo aircraft as it battled adverse weather conditions and turbulence during its multiple landing attempts into the national capital.

Departing from Jammu around 4:40 PM, the flight initially progressed smoothly, offering passengers a routine travel experience. However, as the flight approached Delhi for landing, it encountered a turbulent weather pattern centered around the airport, creating a challenging wind tunnel. Despite the pilot’s best efforts, the initial landing attempt was aborted mid-air due to the unpredictable weather conditions. The sky alternated between patches of sunlight and clouds, detailed a passenger.

On the second attempt to land, as per eye witnesses, rain lashed close to the airport, prompting the pilot to execute another mid-air takeoff. Passengers felt the aircraft rock from side to side as it battled the elements. Throughout the ordeal, the pilot remained composed and made the decision to divert the flight to Jaipur for safety reasons.

Among the passengers were people from all walks of life, including politicians, bureaucrats, businesspeople, lawyers, pilgrims, the elderly, and families with babies. Despite their diverse backgrounds, everyone shared the common experience of facing the uncertainties of air travel amidst challenging weather conditions.

Upon landing in Jaipur, the aircraft was grounded for refueling, and flight attendants worked diligently to reassure passengers and maintain calm amidst the uncertainty. Ground staff distributed food packets to alleviate any discomfort. Some passengers questioned why they couldn’t disembark in Jaipur, seeking clarity from flight officials. For most parts, the passengers also remained exceptionally calm and help each other self sooth.

Despite the challenges, the ground crew swiftly refueled the aircraft, and after a relatively quick turnaround, the flight was back in the air under the cover of night. Passengers shared that more than four other flights were visible in the sky, circling to land. At one point, another aircraft crossed high above in the sky over the flight as per eye witnesses.

Throughout the ordeal, passengers praised the pilot for their exceptional skill and calm demeanor in navigating the challenging conditions.
