Govt. SPMR College of Commerce organises symposium on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

JAMMU, JUNE 20: The NSS wing and Cultural & Literary Committee of Government SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu organised a symposium on the theme “Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The symposium aimed to raise awareness among youth about the ill effects of drugs.

Principal, Dr Surinder Kumar, briefed students on the adverse effects of drugs and outlined the present scenario of substance abuse at international, national and state levels. He also elaborated on multiple career opportunities available to graduating students and their significance in deterring them from falling into the grip of drugs.

NSS PO, Prof. Deepshikha Sharma said that students should utilise their energies and resources in positive and social development. Prof. Apfan Ali, NSS PO, emphasised that students must be counselled properly at various levels to remain aware of the drug menace.

Students who presented their views on drug abuse in the symposium included Rasneet Kour, Pranav Verma, Mohd. Sajad, Rupal Slathia and Priya. Later, students also held a rally in connection with International Yoga Day to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga. Students raised slogans such as “Say No to Drug and Yes to Life” and “Nasha Choro Desh Bachao”.

Other faculty members present on the occasion included Prof. Barbara Koul; HoD Commerce; Prof. Savita Jamwal; Dr Sandhya Bharadwaj; Prof. Ashu Manhas; Dr Nazia Rasool; Dr Deepak Pathania; Prof. Shreya Sharma; Prof. Rajni Bala and Mr Raman Kumar Sharma.
