Govt Degree College Vijaypur celebrates JK-UT Foundation Day

SAMBA, October 27: Government Degree College Vijaypur celebrated ‘Union Territory Foundation Day’ by highlighting the positive changes that have taken place since the creation of Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory four years ago.   The Cultural Committee of the College in collaboration with NSS Unit (KHIDMAT) organized a series of intra college activities to display development post formation of JK as a UT. Students of the college actively participated in the array of activities enthusiastically with great zeal.

The programme was presided over by SDM Vijaypur, Rajesh Kumar Attri. He congratulated everyone on the creation of JK as a UT and highlighted different projects and developments that have taken place in J&K in these four years. He also threw light on the menace of drug abuse and how to overcome it. He motivated the students to enroll as voters and do their part of duty by electing their government democratically.

 Earlier, the welcome address was presented by Principal of the College, Dr. (Prof.) Vandana Gupta followed by presenting of memento to the Chief Guest.

The Event witnessed videography, photography, essay writing and painting competitions in which more than 50 college students participated.

Kavya Charak of sem.V emerged winner in the painting competition, while Rupaank Aryan of sem.III won  essay writing competition and Haroon Malik Sem-V stood first in videography competition. Keshav Mehra of sem.V was the winner of the photography competition. The competition was judged by senior faculty members of the college comprising Prof. Ritu Bhagat, HOD Education, Prof. Anil Bhagat, HOD Commerce and Dr. Naseem Chowdhary, HOD English. Certificates and mementoes were presented to winners of all the competitions.

The event was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan, Co-Convenor Cultural Committee under the able guidance of the worthy Principal Dr. Vandana Gupta. Proceedings of the event were carried out by Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal, Lecturer Education. Formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Ritu Bhagat, HOD Education.
