GMC Srinagar organizes series of Blood Donation Camps to observe ‘World Blood Donor Day’

SRINAGAR, JUNE 15: To commemorate World Blood Donor Day, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, in collaboration with various organizations, organized a series of blood donation camps.

These camps aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and collect blood units for those in need.

The first camp was organized by the Department of Surgery at GMC Srinagar, in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India (JAKASI). The camp was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Iffat Hassan, Principal/Dean, GMC Srinagar.

In her remarks, she emphasized the vital role of the medical fraternity in responding to national tragedies and praised the unwavering spirit of healthcare workers who continue to serve selflessly. A total of 30 faculty members, senior residents, and paramedics donated blood on the occasion.

The second camp was organized at the 500-bedded Government Children Hospital, where 35 donors donated blood. This camp further highlighted the commitment of GMC Srinagar to promoting blood donation and saving lives.

The third camp was organized at Srinagar International Airport in association with the Airport Authority of India, where 95 donors donated blood. Dr. Shazia Handoo, Head of the Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine, along with Mohd Ashraf Hakak, Administrator GMC Srinagar, and various officers were present on the occasion. This camp demonstrated the collaborative efforts of GMC Srinagar and other organizations in promoting blood donation.

These blood donation camps were not only aimed to collected blood units for those in need but also raised awareness about the importance of blood donation in the community.

GMC Srinagar’s efforts to promote blood donation are a testament to its commitment to serving humanity and saving lives.
