G&M Samba distributes Plants under Meri Mitti Mera Desh Programme

SAMBA, AUGUST 07: The Meri Mitti Mera Desh campaign launched under the aegis of Aazadi Ka Amrit Mahautsav (AKAM) has made significant impact in promoting community participation and awareness about sustainable mining practices in Samba district.

The Department of Geology and Mining conducted a series of camps to distribute plants in Gurha Slathia, Nud, Pangdore and several other areas of the district in the presence and support of PRI (Panchayati Raj Institution) representatives. The programme has garnered widespread enthusiasm and involvement from citizens and local communities.

Highlighting the significance of the distribution events,  the District Medical Officer advised the community members to conduct personalized plantation drives. Such approaches can lead to higher sapling survival rates compared to random plantation initiatives, he added.

The series of events commenced on 1st August several successful plantation drives were conducted by lease holders and mineral processing unit holders under the corporate environmental responsibility (CER) program. This was followed by an enlightening awareness camp targeting individuals directly involved in mining activities. The camp aimed to educate them about sustainable mining practices and encouraged community involvement and mobilization.

The district administration in Samba has consistently orchestrated numerous events under the Meri Mitti Mera Desh initiative, each orchestrated by different departments, as part of their dedicated efforts to promote environmental consciousness and sustainable practices.
