GDC Ramgarh organises awareness workshop on Critical  Issue of Domestic Violence

SAMBA, November 06: Women Development Cell, Government Degree College Ramgarh on Monday organised an Awareness Workshop for students on ‘Critical Issues of Domestic Violence and its far-reaching impact on individuals and Communities.’   The event was organized under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, Principal of the College.

Advocate Kiran Thakur, a cyber security expert and Human rights expert was the Resource Person.

In her address, Advocate Kiran Thakur introduced the students to her initiative namely ‘DHIRA’- the undistracted mind, a commitment to empower individuals with knowledge, understanding and confidence in the realms of legal protection and digital security. She emphasized the need to create awareness among the general public regarding different forms of Domestic Violence and the legal services available. She further added that Domestic Violence is violence or other abuse that occurs in a domestic setting, such as in a marriage or cohabitation. She urged an end to the silence around any sort of abuse.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra said that Domestic Violence is not an issue specific to one gender or one place, it can happen to anyone. The more we talk about domestic violence, the more we will be able to spread awareness about it and be better able to identify abusive behaviors and take active steps to fight against it.

All the faculty members as well as students of the college attended the event with great zeal and enthusiasm and had a patient hearing. In the end, a question answer session was also held.
